Why Jesus Had to Be Perfected Through Sufferings?
Heb 5:8-9: "Although he
was a son, he learned obedience...once made perfect"
Heb 2:17-18: "Like his
brothers in every way...because he himself suffered when he was tempted"
bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the
author of their salvation through sufferings. For both He who sanctifies and
those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for this reason He is not
ashamed to call them brethren."
Luke 24:26: "Was it not
necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?"

Why Jesus Had to Be Perfected
Through Sufferings |
Meaning |
•
Being Perfected = Qualified, Completed Experience • Not
referring to defects in His divinity or attributes •
Refers to completing the experience of human sufferings, making Him suitable
as Captain of salvation •
From perfect God to experientially perfect God-man |
Reasons |
• God's Goal: To bring many sons into
glory • Need for Pattern: Must first obtain a
model and pioneer • Qualification Requirement: As Captain
must first experience all human sufferings • Fittingness: For Him by whom are all
things, this was fitting • Oneness: Both He who sanctifies and
those sanctified are all of one |
Methods |
• Incarnation: Word became flesh, took
humanity • Experiencing Sufferings: Various trials
in 33½ years of human life • Death Experience: Death on cross,
passing through death • Resurrection into Glory: Rose from
dead, entered glory • Passing Through Veil: Entered Holy of
Holies, before God |
Concrete
Examples |
• Baptism Crossing: Baptized in Jordan,
began 3½ year ministry • Wilderness Temptation: 40 days tempted
by devil • Life Sufferings: Poverty, rejection,
nowhere to lay His head • Gethsemane: Sweat like drops of blood
falling to ground • Cross Death: Finally passed through
death, completed redemption • Resurrection Ascension: Rose after 3
days, ascended after 40 days |
Spiritual
Application |
• Believer's Pattern: We must also follow
His steps through sufferings • Sanctification Path: Through sufferings
conformed to His Son's image • Warfare Victory: Learn warfare in
sufferings, enter glory • Complete Salvation: Through His
perfection, we obtain complete salvation • Future Hope: We will also enter the
glory He entered |
Nature of
Glory |
• God's Expression: God's full
manifestation and appearance • Seed Flowering: Like carnation seed
dying and blooming • Divine-Human Union: Humanity brought
into God's glorious expression • Reality Within Veil: In Holy of Holies,
God's presence • Eternal Pattern: Eternal model for sons
entering glory |

Summary
Points
The core truth of Jesus being perfected through sufferings is:
He was already perfect God, but to become a qualified
Captain of salvation, He had to experience complete human life in His humanity,
including all sufferings, so that He could sympathize with our weaknesses and
become our pattern and forerunner, leading God's many sons into the glory He
first entered. This was not a defect in His divinity, but God's wise
arrangement to accomplish His eternal purpose.
