Christ in Us, the Hope of Glory

Col. 1:27 "To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory."

2 Cor. 4:17 "For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory."

1 Cor. 15:51-52 "We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed—in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye."

Basic Meaning

Christ is not only our Savior but also God's full expression

This Christ in glory has entered into us

Christ's Identity

Captain of salvation: perfected through suffering to lead many sons to glory

Forerunner and pioneer: first to enter within the veil into glory

Brightness of God's glory: the express image of His person

Reality of Indwelling

Christ is simultaneously in glory and within us

He brings glory into us without leaving glory

He becomes the seed of glory within us

He supplies from glory to us

John 14:20 "At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you."

Gal. 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me."

Eph. 3:17 "That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith."

Function of Suffering

Light momentary affliction works eternal weight of glory

Suffering helps us enter glory

Christ was perfected as Captain through suffering

Grace is sufficient in suffering

Triple contrast: affliction vs. glory, light vs. weighty, momentary vs. eternal

Rom. 8:18 "For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."

2 Cor. 12:9 "And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.'"

Rom. 8:23 "Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body."

Rom. 8:29 "For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son."

Biblical Examples

Paul: Experienced Christ's grace in various sufferings, overcame temporary afflictions with hope of glory

Stephen: Filled with the Holy Spirit in martyrdom, face like an angel, saw God's glory

Moses: Face shone after meeting God face to face on the mountain

2 Cor. 4:16-18 "Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day."

This chart helps us understand this profound spiritual truth more fully. Christ is not only our Savior but also the hope of glory who has entered into glory and now dwells within us. What a rich mystery this is!
