Why Must We Know God in Our Heart?

Why Must We Know God in Our Heart?

Ephesians 3:17: “…that Christ may make His home in your hearts through faith…”
Philippians 4:7: “…the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.”
Jeremiah 31:33–34: “…I will put My law in their inward parts and write it upon their hearts… they will all know Me.”

Aspect

Why Must We Know God in Our Heart?

Meaning

To know God in our heart is not merely an objective, religious knowledge but a subjective, experiential knowing. God is not only great and infinite but also small enough to dwell within us, especially in our conscience, so that we may experience Him in the details of our daily life.

Reason

1. God is greater than our heart (1 John 3:20), reminding and governing us through our conscience.
2. Knowing God must shift from outward knowledge to inward experience, since He dwells in our spirit and desires to spread into every part of our heart (Eph. 3:17).
3. If we remain only in rational or cosmic knowledge of God, we lose the reality; we must know Him inwardly to have true peace and fellowship.

Method

1. Pay attention to the feeling of the conscience: whenever the conscience disturbs us, it is God’s inner reminder.
2. Experience Him in daily details: attitudes toward others, family interactions, words, and behaviors.
3. Through prayer and quietness, stand before Him without fear (1 John 3:21).
4. By faith, let Christ dwell in our hearts (Eph. 3:17).

Examples

- If a husband shows a poor attitude toward his wife, though he thinks he is right, God disturbs his conscience.
- When arguing with others, God does not take sides but faithfully reminds within.
- Although God rules the universe, He still cares about even the smallest matters of our daily life.

Application

1. Not only know God in great matters, but experience Him in small things and details.
2. Learn to turn to the inner sense of the heart as God’s practical guidance.
3. Gain peace and boldness before God.
4. Live a sanctified life by loving and expressing God in reality.

Related Scriptures

- 1 John 3:19–21: “If our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart and knows all things…”
- Ephesians 3:17: “…that Christ may make His home in your hearts through faith…”
- Philippians 4:7: “…the peace of God… will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.”
- Jeremiah 31:33–34: “…I will put My law in their inward parts and write it upon their hearts… they will all know Me.”

Core Point:

God desires to be known not merely in outward greatness but in inward experience, in our conscience and heart.

Conclusion:

Knowing God in our heart allows us to experience Him in a living, practical way. This brings peace, boldness, and real fellowship with Him, making the infinite God real and present in our daily life.
