The Spirit as the Application of the Triune God
1 Cor. 15:45b – “The last Adam became a
life-giving Spirit.”
2 Cor. 3:17 – “The Lord is the Spirit.”
Gal. 4:6 – “God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts…”
Aspect |
The Spirit as the Application of
the Triune God |
Meaning |
The Spirit is
the application of the processed Triune God, bringing all that the Father and
the Son accomplished to man so that we may experience and enjoy God as life. |
Reason |
The Triune God
went through a process (incarnation → human
living → crucifixion → resurrection),
accomplishing redemption and becoming the
life-giving Spirit, in order to enter into man and apply the divine life to us. |
Examples |
1. The Lord, after resurrection, became the life-giving Spirit (1
Cor. 15:45b). |
Application |
1. Believers fellowship with the Triune God in spirit and receive His
supply of life. |
Key Scriptures |
- 1 Thes. 1:1 – “…in God the Father and
the Lord Jesus Christ” (implying the Spirit).
|
Core Point |
The Spirit is not merely God’s Spirit or Christ’s
Spirit but the processed Triune God Himself applied to us as the life-giving
Spirit. |
Conclusion |
The Triune God
reaches us and is applied to us as the Spirit. The church
exists in this Spirit, enjoying God’s life and
expressing Him. |
