The Spirit as the Application of the Triune God

The Spirit as the Application of the Triune God

1 Cor. 15:45b – “The last Adam became a life-giving Spirit.”

2 Cor. 3:17 – “The Lord is the Spirit.”
Gal. 4:6 – “God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts…”

Aspect

The Spirit as the Application of the Triune God

Meaning

The Spirit is the application of the processed Triune God, bringing all that the Father and the Son accomplished to man so that we may experience and enjoy God as life.

Reason

The Triune God went through a process (incarnationhuman living crucifixion resurrection), accomplishing redemption and becoming the life-giving Spirit, in order to enter into man and apply the divine life to us.

Examples

1. The Lord, after resurrection, became the life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45b).
2. The disciples experienced the Spirit’s outpouring at Pentecost (Acts 2), which was the Triune God reaching man.
3. Believers experience the love of the Father, the grace of the Son, and the fellowship of the Spirit (2 Cor. 13:14).

Application

1. Believers fellowship with the Triune God in spirit and receive His supply of life.
2. The indwelling Spirit renews, sanctifies, and transforms us, enabling us to live out Christ.
3. The church is in this applied Triune God, becoming His expression and testimony.

Key Scriptures

- 1 Thes. 1:1 – “…in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” (implying the Spirit).
- 1 Cor. 15:45b – “The last Adam became a life-giving Spirit.”
- John 14:16–20The Lord promised the Spirit to dwell in believers.
- John 20:22 The risen Lord breathed the Spirit into the disciples.
- 2 Cor. 3:17 – “The Lord is the Spirit.”
- Gal. 4:6 – “God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts…”
- Rom. 8:9–11The Spirit, the Spirit of God, and the Spirit of Christ indwell believers to give life.

Core Point

The Spirit is not merely God’s Spirit or Christ’s Spirit but the processed Triune God Himself applied to us as the life-giving Spirit.

Conclusion

The Triune God reaches us and is applied to us as the Spirit. The church exists in this Spirit, enjoying God’s life and expressing Him.
