The Three Aspects of the Lord’s Model Prayer in Matthew 6 (Prayers
Concerning God – Prayers for Our Protection – Praise to the Father)
Matt.
6:9–10 – “Our Father who is in the heavens, Your name be sanctified;
Your kingdom come; Your will be done, as in heaven, so also on earth.”
Matt.
6:11–13a – “Give us today our daily bread; forgive us our debts, as we also forgive our debtors; and do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”
Matt. 6:13b – “For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”

Aspect |
Prayers
Concerning God (Matt. 6:9b–10) |
Prayers
for Our Protection (Matt. 6:11–13a) |
Praise
to the Father (Matt.
6:13b) |
|
Meaning |
To honor God’s
name, bring in His kingdom, and accomplish His will—the expression
and execution of God’s purpose. |
For the
believers’ provision, forgiveness, and deliverance from temptation
and the evil one; preserving spiritual life
and fellowship. |
To ascribe
glory, power, and dominion to the Father, acknowledging
that all things belong to Him. |
|
Reason |
Because of Satan’s rebellion and
man’s fall, God’s name, kingdom, and will are
hindered; prayer restores God’s interest on earth. |
Because believers
are
weak and still live in temptation, they need daily
supply, forgiveness, and spiritual
protection. |
Because God is
both the source and the goal, the Alpha and the Omega, who deserves eternal praise. |
|
Distinction |
Relates to God’s interest and purpose (the divine part). |
Relates to man’s need and protection
(the
human part). |
Relates to worship and glory to God (the praise part). |
|
Explanation |
The three petitions correspond to the Triune God:
“Your name be sanctified” (the Father), “Your
kingdom come” (the Son), “Your
will be done” (the Spirit). |
The three requests correspond to man’s need: “daily bread”
(supply), “forgiveness”
(fellowship), “deliverance”
(spiritual victory). |
The three praises correspond to the
Triune God: “the kingdom”
(the Son), “the
power” (the Spirit), “the
glory” (the Father). |
|
Purpose |
That God’s name
be honored, His kingdom come, and His will be done on earth as in heaven. |
That believers
live by God’s provision, enjoy forgiveness, and be kept from temptation
and evil. |
That prayer
ends in worship and glory to the Father, completing God’s
economy. |
|
Examples |
Jesus in Gethsemane: “Not as I will, but as You will.” (Matt. 26:39) |
Israel receiving manna daily (Exo. 16:15); Peter delivered from prison and the evil one (Acts 12:5–11). |
David’s praise: “Yours is the
kingdom and the power and the glory.” (1 Chron. 29:11) |
|
Application |
Seek first
God’s name, kingdom, and will (Matt. 6:33); live a God-centered life. |
Depend daily on
the Father’s supply, forgiveness, and protection. |
Conclude
prayers with thanksgiving and praise, glorifying the Father. |
|
Mutual Relationship |
God’s prayer is
the foundation → Protection prayer is the continuation
→ Praise
is the completion. |
The three correspond: beginning in God, continuing through man, ending in God. |
Together they
form the divine-human cycle of cooperation in God’s economy. |
|
Burden |
To pray for God’s interest and will to be restored on earth. |
To pray for believers’ spiritual growth and preservation. |
To pray that God may gain glory and His kingdom be expressed in
all the earth. |
|
Prophetic Ministry Guidance |
Declare God’s
will—His name, kingdom, and purpose—through priestly intercession. |
Care for
practical life and spiritual fellowship; forgive and intercede for others. |
End in praise,
exalting the Father and supplying the church with worship. |
|
Conclusion |
God’s prayer is
the beginning and center of all prayer. |
The protective
prayer sustains fellowship and dependence. |
The praise is the
high point and completion of prayer. |

🌿 Key Points Summary
1. The Lord’s prayer begins and ends with the Father—He
is both the source and the goal.
2. The entire prayer reveals the Triune God’s
economy: the Father (Name), the Son (Kingdom), and the
Spirit (Will).
3. The spiritual
order of prayer: seek first God’s interest → receive our protection → return
glory to the Father.
4.
This pattern trains
believers to be those who cooperate
with God’s will and express His
glory on the earth.
