Aspect

How the Lord Jesus Was a Man of Prayer?

Meaning

As the King-Savior, the Lord Jesus lived, ministered, and even died in prayer. He was a living prayer a man in the flesh, yet one with God in His divine and mysterious realm, expressing the union of God and man.

Characteristics

(1) One with the Father (John 10:30).
(2) Always living in the Father’s presence (John 8:29).
(3) Trusted God in every suffering, not Himself (1 Pet. 2:23b).
(4) Satan had nothing in Him (John 14:30).
(5) Prayed in a divine and mysterious sphere.
(6) His prayers centered on the Father’s will.

Explanation

The Lord did not pray as a religious or pious man but as one in the flesh entering the divine and mysterious realm to fellowship with the Father. His prayer was not merely words—it was His living, His union and cooperation with God to accomplish His purpose.

Examples

1️  At His baptism (Luke 3:21-22): As He prayed, heaven opened, and the Spirit descended upon Him.
2️
In solitude (Mark 1:35; Luke 5:16): Rising early to pray in a deserted place.
3️
Before choosing the disciples (Luke 6:12): He spent the whole night in prayer to God.
4️
On the Mount of Transfiguration (Luke 9:28-29): While He prayed, His countenance changed.
5️
For Peter’s faith (Luke 22:31-32): “I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail.”
6️
In Gethsemane (Luke 22:39-44): “Not My will, but Yours be done.”
7️
On the cross (Luke 23:34, 46): “Father, forgive them... Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.”

Application

To live the God-man life, we must learn of the Lord to pray unceasingly and live in oneness with the Father. True prayer is not asking for things but abiding in fellowship, being constituted with God, and becoming His expression.

Purpose

That the Father may be glorified (John 17:1), that God’s will may be done on earth (Matt. 6:10), and that the church may become ahouse of prayer” (Luke 19:46), fulfilling God’s eternal economy.

Burden

The Lord’s prayer life reveals His perfect union, dependence, and expression of the Father. He desires to gain a people who are likewise men of prayer so that the church would be the corporate expression of God’s praying on earth.

Prophetic Direction

The Lord’s prayer is the reality of being one with the Father.
The essence of prayer is fellowship and constitution, not requests.
③ Human prayer seeks self; divine prayer fulfills God’s will.
When we live in God’s presence and trust Him fully, we become His continuation in prayer on earth.

Detailed Scriptures

Luke 22:39-44 – “Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
Luke 23:34 – “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.”
Luke 23:46 – “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.”
John 10:30 – “I and the Father are one.”
John 8:29 – “He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone.”
1 Peter 2:23b – “He committed Himself to Him who judges righteously.”
John 14:30 – “The ruler of the world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.”
Psalm 109:4 – “But I give myself to prayer.”

Conclusion

The Lord Jesus is the perfect pattern of a praying person — divine yet human, dependent yet victorious, expressing God in prayer. His life was a continuous communion with the Father. To follow Him is to become His reproduction — a person whose living is prayer, fulfilling God’s purpose on earth.
