Blessed Are the Meek, for They Shall Inherit the Earth (Matthew 5:5)

Blessed Are the Meek, for They Shall Inherit the Earth (Matthew 5:5)

Matt. 11:28–30I am meek and lowly in heart...My yoke is easy.”

Aspect

Blessed Are the Meek, for They Shall Inherit the Earth (Matthew 5:5)

Meaning

Meekness” means not resisting the opposition of the world but willingly enduring it. It is the expression of a gentle, humble spirit that yields, does not strive, and does not invade others’ ground. It is a manifestation of the heavenly nature.

Reason

When a person is poor in spirit and mourns for others’ pitiful condition, a meek heart naturally follows. Recognizing one’s own nothingness and having compassion on others leads to not striving or resisting.

Result

Those who willingly endure opposition in this age will inherit the earth in the coming agethe recovered kingdom and inheritance of the Lord (Matt. 5:5; Heb. 2:5–8; Luke 19:17, 19). Those who strive will fade away, but the meek will remain and inherit.

Explanation

The world gains territory through fighting, but God’s kingdom operates by an opposite principle—it is obtained through meekness. When Jesus was arrested, tried, and crucified, He did not resist but completed redemption in perfect meekness. His kingdom is founded on meekness.
