The Characteristics of the Overcoming Believers Seen in the Stars, the
Man-child, the Firstfruits, the Harvest, Jasper, and Precious Stones
These six symbols in Revelation can be viewed as presenting a comprehensive picture of the spiritual life and divine economy
of the overcoming believers: from
shining as living witnesses in the midst of the
degradation of the church, to fighting with Christ against Satan, reaching maturity, being raptured for God's enjoyment, and finally being transformed and built together as the New Jerusalem for
the eternal expression of God's glory.

The
Six Symbols as One Complete Line of Life
These six symbols can be condensed into six verbs:
The stars — shine → the man-child — fight
→ the firstfruits —
mature → the harvest — be reaped → jasper — express → precious
stones — be built
They are not six isolated teachings. Rather, they present a complete picture of the overcoming believers
progressing from testimony and warfare to
maturity, expression, and building.
1. The Stars: The Overcomers Must First “Shine”
Revelation 1:20 says that the
seven stars are the messengers of the seven churches. This shows that in the
time of the degradation and darkness of the
church, what the Lord needs is not merely
people with knowledge, but people who shine.
A star does not generate its own light; it reflects heavenly light. An overcoming believer is one
who:
Receives
Christ as the heavenly, living Star →
pays attention to the prophetic Word → allows
the morning star to arise in the heart →
becomes a shining living star.
Therefore, an overcomer does not
merely know
the truth. He lives in the light
of the truth and shines Christ out.
Thus:
The
stars emphasize “bearing Christ as the
testimony”; the man-child emphasizes “executing Christ's victory.”
2. The
Man-child: The Overcomers Must Not Only
Shine but Also “Fight”
Revelation 12 places the
man-child in the midst of the conflict between the dragon and the woman.
The central characteristic of
the man-child is not natural ability but:
Being
one with Christ → relying on the blood of the Lamb → testifying of Christ's victory → not loving the
soul-life → overcoming Satan.
Revelation 12:11 gives a particularly clear formula of
overcoming:
The
blood of the Lamb + the word of testimony + not loving the soul-life = overcoming the accuser
Therefore, overcoming is
not merely improving ourselves. It is refusing to allow the soul-life to become a foothold for the
enemy to frustrate God's economy.
The man-child is
therefore a corporate group that cooperates with Christ to bring in the kingdom and defeat God's enemy.
3.
The
Firstfruits: The Overcomers Must “Mature First”
Revelation 14:4 says that the 144,000 are: “the firstfruits to
God and to the Lamb.”
The firstfruits have a very important
characteristic: they mature before the
general harvest.
The rapture of the firstfruits is therefore not
primarily for man's enjoyment but for God's enjoyment and the fulfillment
of His purpose.
The characteristics of the firstfruits include:
Having the name of the Lamb
and the Father's name on their foreheads;
Following the Lamb wherever He goes; Not
being defiled; Having no lie in their mouth; Being without blemish;
Having reached maturity; Becoming a fresh
enjoyment to God and the Lamb.
Therefore:
Overcoming
is not only overcoming
in warfare; it is also overcoming by reaching maturity
in life.
4.
The
Harvest: God Does Not Ultimately Want
Only a Few “Heroes,” but a Mature Crop
There is an important relationship between
the firstfruits and the harvest:
The
firstfruits mature first; the harvest matures afterward.
Therefore, overcoming should
not be understood as an experience reserved only for a few unusually spiritual
believers.
God's ultimate intention is to bring His entire crop to maturity.
It can be represented as:
Firstfruits
→ foretaste of maturity →
harvest → corporate maturity
The firstfruits are for God's satisfaction
and also serve God's economy as those who mature earlier. The harvest points to God's
eventual obtaining of a corporate
maturity among His believers.
5. Jasper:
The Ultimate Goal Is Not to “Become a Better
Person” but to “Express God”
Revelation 21:11 says:
“The city has the glory of
God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, as clear as
crystal.”
Jasper in Revelation is associated with the very appearance of God
(Rev. 4:3).
Therefore, the goal of
maturity is not:
“I have become a good, spiritual, or improved person.”
Rather, it is:
God
wrought into us → God's life becoming our life → God's nature becoming our nature → God's glory being expressed through us.
This is why maturity must eventually lead to
jasper.
The overcoming believer's goal is
not merely personal spirituality, but the corporate expression of God.
6. Precious
Stones: The Overcomers Must Not Only Be Transformed but Also
“Built”
Jasper and
the other precious stones must be considered together.
Jasper
emphasizes the expression
of God.
The
various precious stones emphasize the riches and beauty of Christ
in different aspects, becoming the
material for God's eternal building.
Thus:
Life → growth → transformation → precious
stones → building → New Jerusalem
First Peter 2:4–5 gives us the important principle:
Christ is the living stone → we come to Him → we also
become living stones → we are being built up as
a spiritual house.
Therefore, the highest
characteristic of an overcoming believer is not merely individual
spirituality but:
Being
transformed and constituted with the Triune God and being built together with all the saints as God's eternal
dwelling place.

Prophetic Summary
The overcoming
believers are the shining stars who bear the living testimony of Jesus, the man-child who fights with Christ against God's enemy, the firstfruits who reach
maturity first for God's satisfaction, and
ultimately the mature harvest. Through transformation
in life, they become jasper expressing God and
precious stones expressing the riches of Christ; finally, they are built
together as the New Jerusalem, causing the
Triune God to have an eternal, corporate, and
universal expression.
The
Final Spiritual Formula
Christ as life → the Spirit as power → God's
Word as the weapon → the cross as the way → maturity in life →
transformation into precious stones → building
into the New Jerusalem → God fully expressed
Or, even more simply:
Shining for the testimony → fighting to defeat the enemy → maturing for God's satisfaction → being harvested to complete God's crop → being transformed to express God → being built as God's dwelling place.
The
Ultimate Meaning of “Overcoming”
The deepest meaning of overcoming is
therefore not merely overcoming an individual sin, weakness, or difficult
circumstance. It is allowing Christ to gain the
full ground in us so that we may:
mature
in life, be transformed in nature, fight in function, and be built
corporately—ultimately becoming the New Jerusalem as God's eternal expression in the universe.
