Believers in Christ vs. the Measure of Faith

Believers in Christ vs. the Measure of Faith

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: The old has gone; behold, the new has come!

1 Corinthians 6:17 But whoever is united with the Lord becomes one spirit with him.

Romans 12:3 By the grace given to me I say to each of you not to think more highly of yourself than you ought to think, but to see each one with discernment and sober measure of faith, as God has assigned to him.

Hebrews 12:2 And this hope extends to Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Item

Believers in Christ

The Measure of Faith

Meaning

Through regeneration, believers have been transferred from Adam into Christ, becoming a new creation and being joined to the Lord as one spirit, living in the divine life (John 3:15–16; 1 Cor. 15:22; 2 Cor. 5:17; 1 Cor. 6:17).

God has apportioned to each believer a different measure of faith according to his or her growth in life, enabling each member to function in the Body of Christ (Rom. 12:3).

Reason

God's salvation is not merely for the forgiveness of sins but to bring man into Christ and impart His eternal divine life.

God desires believers to grow in life rather than remain in natural self-confidence; therefore, He enlarges the measure of faith according to spiritual maturity and humility.

Illustration

The first birth gives us the natural life; the second birth gives us the divine life—a spiritual birth certificate.

Faith is like the capacity of a vessel. As life grows, the vessel enlarges and can contain a greater measure of faith.

Explanation

Believers are born first in Adam and then born again in Christ. The Spirit witnesses with our spirit that we are children of God, and we have become one spirit with the Lord (John 3:6–7; Rom. 8:16).

The quality of faith is the same in every believer—it is Christ Himself. The measure differs according to growth in life, humility, and obedience.

How Faith Is Produced

When people hear Christ, know Him, appreciate Him, and treasure Him, Christ is infused into them as the faith by which they believe in Him (Heb. 12:2).

Faith is not self-generated; Christ Himself is both the Author and Perfecter of faith, continually increasing its measure within us.

Process

Hearing Christ Contacting the living Word The Spirit imparts Christ into us Faith is produced Regeneration In Christ.

Hearing the word of faith Loving the Lord Faith operates Experiencing the Spirit's supply Growth in life Enlargement of faith.

Result

Becoming a new creation, a child of God, one spirit with the Lord, and living in Christ's divine life.

Receiving greater spiritual responsibility, richer experiences of Christ, and a broader function in the Body.

Purpose

To make believers members of Christ's Body for the expression of Christ and the fulfillment of God's eternal economy.

To enable every member to function according to God's measure for the building up of the Body of Christ.

Intrinsic Relationship

Regeneration is the beginning.

The measure of faith is the result of spiritual growth.

Spiritual Formula

Paul growing into a mature apostle with abundant faith; Peter's faith being perfected through failures and restoration.

Practical Application

Live daily in the spirit, realizing that you are no longer in Adam but a new creation in Christ.

Do not compare yourself with others. Treasure Christ, hear His word, remain humble, and let life grow so that faith may increase.

Principle of Life

Position comes by grace, not by works.

Measure comes by life, not by natural ability.

Ministry Burden

Help believers realize that they are no longer in Adam but are new creations in Christ.

Help believers pursue growth in life rather than outward gifts, position, or reputation.

Warning

Living according to the natural life prevents the expression of the divine life in Christ.

Pride, self-exaltation, and self-confidence restrict the increase of faith (Phil. 2:2–3; Gal. 6:3).

Spiritual Principle

Position precedes service.

Life precedes measure; humility precedes enlargement.

Speaking (Prophesying) Guidance

We do not strive to become Christians—we have already been transferred from Adam into Christ and have become one spirit with Him.

Faith is not psychological confidence but Christ Himself infused into us; as life matures, God enlarges our measure of faith.

One-Sentence Summary

Believers enter Christ through the second birth and live as a new creation in one spirit with Him.

Faith is Christ Himself imparted into us, and its measure increases as the divine life grows within us.

Ultimate Conclusion

Being in Christ is the eternal position of every regenerated believer.

The measure of faith is the expression of spiritual maturity. Our position is given by grace, while our measure grows through life. Together they enable every believer to function in the Body and fulfill God's eternal economy.

Ministry Burden

  • The focus is not to seek greater faith, but to gain more of Christ.
  • The focus is not to pursue spiritual position, but to pursue growth in life.
  • The focus is not to exalt ourselves, but to remain sober-minded in the Body.
  • Christ is the source of faith; life is the capacity of faith; the Body is the goal of faith.
  • Every increase in the measure of faith should result in a richer function for the building up of the Body of Christ.

Ultimate Conclusion

Being in Christ reveals the believer's eternal position in the divine life, while the measure of faith reveals the believer's degree of growth and maturity in that life. Regeneration transfers us from Adam into Christ, and by hearing, appreciating, and loving Christ, He Himself becomes the living faith within us. As we continue to live in the mingled spirit and grow in the divine life, God enlarges our measure of faith, enabling each member to function according to God's apportionment. The ultimate goal is the building up of the Body of Christ for the fulfillment of God's eternal economy and the consummation of the New Jerusalem.
