“Positive Practices vs Negative Practices in Serving Together with Others”

“Positive Practices vs Negative Practices in Serving Together with Others”

1 Corinthians 12:12 Just as the body is one, yet has many members, and all its members, though many, constitute one body, so also is Christ.

1 Corinthians 12:13 For we were all baptized in one Spirit, becoming one body, and all drink from one Spirit, whether Jew or Gentile, slave or free.

Ephesians 4:16 From him the whole body, joined together and united by each richly supplied joint and by each part having its measured function, grows so that it may build itself up in love.

Romans 12:4 Just as we have many members in one body, but not all members have the same function;

Romans 12:5 So also we, so many, in Christ, are one body, and each one a member of one another.

Item

Positive Practice

 (Serving in Coordination in Spirit)

Negative Practice

 (Serving in the Flesh)

Meaning

Serving together in the Body of Christ through mutual dependence and coordination.

Outward cooperation but inward division and independence.

Cause

Believers share one Lord, one Spirit, and one Body.

The self, natural life, and individualism remain strong.

Spiritual Source

Comes from denying the self and living in resurrection.

Comes from the flesh, ambition, and natural ability.

Governing Principle

Not I, but Christ”;

“Not individual, but the Body.”

“My way,” “my feeling,” “my opinion.”

Illustration

The members of the human body coordinating together.

The tower of Babel built by men for themselves.

Another Illustration

An orchestra playing one harmony.

Everyone playing a different tune.

Explanation

Fellowship, accepting limitation, and mutual supply.

Refusing fellowship and insisting on personal preference.

Inner Attitude

Humble, open, teachable, and gentle.

Proud, defensive, opinionated, and self-assertive.

Fellowship

Seeking the Lord together in fellowship.

Pretending to fellowship while already decided inwardly.

Way of Working

According to the feeling of the Body and the Spirit’s confirmation.

According to personal burden and natural excitement.

Leadership

Mutual submission and perfecting.

Controlling, suppressing, and dominating others.

Speaking

Building up, supplying life, and harmonizing.

Criticizing, comparing, exposing, and tearing down.

View toward Coworkers

Seeing others as indispensable members.

Viewing others as threats or competitors.

Handling Differences

Seeking harmony in the Body.

Arguing over right and wrong.

Attitude toward Credit

Glory to the Lord; function to the Body.

Seeking recognition for oneself.

Attitude toward Failure

Covering and restoring one another.

Blaming and condemning others.

Attitude toward Truth

Holding the truth in love.

Using truth as a weapon.

Effect

Brings building up, life supply, and the Lord’s presence.

Brings division, death, and confusion.

Result

The Body is built up and the church grows.

The work may grow outwardly but lacks Body reality.

Goal

Perfecting the saints and building the Body of Christ.

Building a personal work or reputation.

Main Difference

Christ and the Body are central.

The self and personal work are central.

Relationship

Positive practice is the way of genuine service.

Negative practice damages the building of the Body.

Positive/ Negative Example

Paul and Timothy; the Antioch church coordination.

The disciples disputing greatness; divisions in Corinth.

Present Application

Pray and fellowship before serving; listen to others.

Acting emotionally and insisting on personal opinions.

Practical Exercise

Deny the self before coordination.

Seek support for one’s own idea first.

Life Expression

Christ’s meekness, love, and endurance.

Jealousy, rivalry, and impatience.

Spiritual Burden

The Lord desires one coordinated Body service.

Satan attacks the oneness among the saints.

Prophesying Guidance

“Real service is not individual spirituality but Body coordination.”

“One who cannot coordinate with others is still natural.”

Conclusion

The secret of coordination is the cross and the Body-consciousness.

Division comes from the undealt-with self.

Spiritual Meaning

The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you.”

No one can serve independently.

The blood circulates through all members.

The saints mutually supply life.

The whole body is directed by one head.

All coordination must submit to Christ the Head.

Joints and sinews connect the body.

Coordination requires fellowship and blending.

One member acts independently.

The whole Body becomes unbalanced.

*One-Sentence Prophetic Summary

The ones who truly build up the Body of Christ are not the most gifted, but those most willing to be broken by the cross and coordinated with others.

*Ultimate Conclusion

God today is not merely recovering spirituality, gifts, or methods of work; He is recovering the coordinated service of the Body of Christ.

Those who truly live in the Body will learn:

  • to deny the self,
  • to accept limitation,
  • to honor others’ function,
  • to live in fellowship,
  • and to serve in one accord.

Such coordination gives the Holy Spirit a free way to build the church and express Christ corporately.
