Everything We Encounter Is Out of God’s Mercy

Everything We Encounter Is Out of God’s Mercy

Romans 9:15–16:For He says to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.
Romans 9:18, 23:So then He has mercy on whom He wills, and He hardens whom He wills... in order that He might make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He had before prepared unto glory.”
Ephesians 1:4:Even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world.”

Aspect

Everything We Encounter Is Out of God’s Mercy

Meaning

Everything that happens to us—blessings, trials, environments, or service—is out of God's sovereign mercy. His mercy is the expression of His authority, making us vessels of mercy to contain Him and express His glory.

Reason

God is sovereign: “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy” (Rom. 9:15). His mercy does not depend on human will or effort but on God who shows mercy (Rom. 9:16). He chose us before the foundation of the world (Eph. 1:4), forming us as vessels of honor under His mercy.

Purpose

To make us recognize His sovereignty, thank Him for His mercy, and through it be transformed into vessels of glory expressing His riches (Rom. 9:23). His mercy turns our hearts toward Him so that we may seek Him daily (Jer. 29:13).

Explanation

Mercy is the outflow of God’s love. Love reaches the lovable; mercy reaches the miserable (Eph. 2:4). We were fallen and dead in sins, but His mercy reached us, enlivened us, and enabled us to serve. Even our willingness to bear responsibility is due to His mercy.

Examples

1. Paul, who persecuted the church, obtained mercy and became an apostle (1 Tim. 1:13–16).
2. Moses was chosen because God said, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy” (Exo. 33:19; Rom. 9:15).
3. We responded to the gospel, received the ministry of life, and entered the church life—entirely by God’s mercy.

Application

In all circumstances—service, trials, blessings, or daily life—we must acknowledge everything is arranged by God’s sovereign mercy. We rely not on our decision or striving but trust in Him who shows mercy.

Burden

To help believers realize that our salvation, service, overcoming, and being in the Lord’s recovery are wholly of mercy, not of ourselves. Seeing this keeps us humble, thankful, and faithful.

Prophetic Speaking Guide

① “Brothers and sisters, our being here today is because God’s mercy has reached us.”
② “The more we see everything is of mercy, the more we bear responsibility before Him.”
③ “Being in the Lord’s recovery is a testimony of God’s mercy—let us worship and praise Him!

Detailed Verses

Ephesians 2:4–5:But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in offenses, made us alive together with Christ.”
Jeremiah 29:13: “And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.

Deuteronomy 4:29:But from there you will seek Jehovah your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
Isaiah 55:6:Seek Jehovah while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near.”
Hebrews 4:16:Let us therefore come forward with boldness to the throne of grace that we may receive mercy and find grace for timely help.”

Conclusion:

God’s mercy flows from His sovereignty. Our salvation, growth, service, and environment are all of His mercy. Realizing this causes us to thank, worship, obey, and serve Him faithfully until His glory is manifested.
