The Revelation of the Mystery of Christ

Eph 3:5: "This mystery was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets."

Eph 3:3: "That is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly."

Eph 3:7: "I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power."

Eph 3:8: "Although I am less than the least of all the Lord's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the boundless riches of Christ."

Definition

The mystery of Christ is the church, which is the revelation of God's hidden purpose

Eph 3:4-5: "By reading this, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets."

Age

Revealed only in the New Testament age, hidden in previous ages

Rom 16:25-26: "Now to him who is able to establish you in accordance with my gospel, the message I proclaim about Jesus Christ, in keeping with the revelation of the mystery hidden for long ages past, but now revealed and made known through the prophetic writings by the command of the eternal God, so that all the Gentiles might come to the obedience that comes from faith."

Scope

God's economy to dispense Christ into His chosen people to produce a body, so that God may have a corporate expression

Eph 3:6: "This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus."

Eph 3:9: "And to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things."

Means

Through the mingled spirit, revealed to the apostles and prophets

Eph 3:5: "This mystery was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets."

Eph 1:17: "I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better."

Organ

The believers' regenerated spirit mingled with the divine Spirit becomes the organ through which the mystery of Christ is revealed

1 Cor 6:17: "But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit."

Eph 1:17: "I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better."

Concerning

God dispensing Himself (Christ) into man to produce a body for His Son

Eph 3:10-11: "His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Eph 3:16-17a: "I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith."

Application

Need to be strengthened into the inner man (the regenerated spirit) and allow Christ to make home in our hearts

 

Conclusion:

The revelation of the mystery of Christ shows us that the church, which was hidden in God throughout past ages, has now been revealed in the New Testament era. This mystery is revealed through the mingled spirit to the apostles and prophets. To experience and enjoy Christ as the mystery of the church, believers need to be strengthened into their inner man and allow Christ to make home in their hearts. This enables us to participate more deeply in God's economy, which is to dispense Christ into us for the producing of His Body, that God may have a corporate expression.
